The overall goal of the Stratton Foundation grant program is to bring people and resources together to meet a documented community need in one of five areas having a positive impact on one or more of the sixteen southern Vermont communities we serve. Within these areas, the grants committee will prioritize applications that address specific needs of young people in our community with the aim of "Opening doors to a brighter future for Vermont Kids."
The Foundation has traditionally made two types of grants: McCarty Grants and Focus Grants. Most of the Foundation’s grants support projects that are one year in duration. (McCarty Grants average $1,000). Each year the Foundation makes a few grants to support “organization changing initiatives” (Focus Grants up to $5,000). Applicants must follow the applicable guidelines and time line for the McCarty or Focus grants. While organizations can apply twice a year for McCarty grants, as a general rule, the board of directors will not make two grants to one organization in a twelve month period, and we ask that organizations take this into consideration when applying for a grant. Exceptions will be made in the event of an unforeseen need or opportunity.
McCarty and Focus gran applications must be received prior to March 1 or September 1 (new application due date change effective, September 1, 2009). Click on McCarty Grants or Focus Grants to learn more about the purpose of each grant program, the application process, and to download an application.
