future generations. The Foundation is grassroots philanthropy at its best and is a community foundation to the core.
How does membership make a difference? Members depend upon the Foundation to:
- Understand community needs - The focus of the Foundation Grants Committee and Board of Directors is to assess the needs of the community and to leverage member contributions to create a healthier more vibrant community.
- Make grants that have an impact on areas of critical community needs - 100% of all unrestricted contributions are used to support area non-profit organizations that serve the towns in our community with a focus on area youth.
- Make accountability central - The Board of Directors holds recipients accountable for the use of all funds, and the foundation is accountable to its members.
Member gifts range from $50 to $5,000 with the average gift just less than $250.

Planned Gifts
Often, people ask for information about ways they can support the foundation's work in the future without sacrificing current income. For this reason, we invite people to explore the wide range of gift plans available and to learn how they can maximize the impact of their gifts to the Stratton Foundation while realizing tax and financial benefits by choosing the right assets for their gifts.
- Assets used in gift planning can include cash, stock or mutual funds, real estate, collectibles, life insurance policies, IRAs and qualified retirement plans.
- Charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts are specially designed financial arrangements that can enhance current income while providing donors with significant income tax and capital gains tax saving.
- Gifts made through a will, living trust, life insurance policies, or IRAs or qualified retirement plans will pass to the Stratton Foundation completely free of estate tax.
We would be pleased to provide further information on any of these gift arrangements. For further information, please call 802-297-2096. Your giving plans should always be discussed with your own legal and tax advisors.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to help, from specific one time projects, assisting with an event, serving as a member of a committee or on the Advisory Board or Board of Directors. People can be involved as much or as little as their time allows. It is fun and very rewarding to work side by side with others who care deeply about the quality of life of our community.
How to become involved?
The best way to start is to speak with either Marianne Kennedy or Tammy Mosher at the Foundation office (802) 297-2096. They will help each person find a meaningful way to become involved - making a significant difference - and having fun working with and meeting others in the process. Please fill out the volunteer interest survey, and we will contact you.
The range of opportunities include helping with
- Events - We organize several major community building and fund raising events each year. For an event to be successful, help is needed at all stages, including planning, implementation of the plan, and evaluating how things went for the future.
- Leadership - In the About Us section, we describe our formal structure, including the specific areas of responsibility, and the people who are primarily responsible for making decisions about what we will do and when and how it will get done are listed
- Office - Throughout the year there are many ways that an extra set of hands can make a tremendous difference in getting out a mailing and confirming contact information, for example.
The bottom line is that people can be involved as much or as little as their time allows. The possibilities are endless and there is a right way for each member of our community to help.
