Merck Forest
To assist with creating another pioneering program tol strengthen the math skills of elementary students at this foundational period of their learning while contributing greater emphasis via the outdoor experience.

West River Montessori School
In conjunction with the Nature Museum at Grafton, we will create four programs to encourage the children to explore the natural world around them. These programs will study owls and amphibians, have the museum come for "Animals in Winter" and go on one field trip to study "Pond Life".

Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center
The grant money will help to offset the cost of scholarships and allow 3- 5 people a season-long or 11-12 people for half-season program. Regardless of the amount of time it will give them the opportunity to push themselves past their limits.

The Dorset Players
To support the Missoula Children's Theater (MCT), a one-week theater-in-residence program for area youngsters, that provides free theater workshops at local schools and culminates with a musical production that stars 50+ area youngsters.

Vermont Reading Partners
To encourage our tutors to use hands-on activities and support their efforts, we will provide each tutor with a "Tool Box Satchel" so they can customize teaching to the interests and needs of the individual student.

Jamaica/Wardsboro Food Pantry
To purchase a new, energy efficient freezer for the Food Pantry to allow the pantry to better utilize the resources of the Vermont Foodbank, and provide more choices for our clients while saving money for our organization.

Happy Days Playschool
The Music and Movement project will help meet the Vermont Early Learning Standards and Creative Curriculum guidelines, to allow approximately 110 students benefit by expanding their educational experiences through music.

Opera Theatre of Weston
OTW strives to offer reduced admission prices to our needier southern Vermont schools and the Stratton Foundation made a grant to support this objective.

Currier School
The third of a program for children in need of assistance such as getting homework done, receiving extra reading help and meeting the academic standards

Arlington Food Shelf
Over the years, the Arlington Food Shelf has been providing needy individuals and families from the surrounding communities of Sandgate, Sunderland and Arlington with nutritious and healthy food.

Cooking for Life
"Cooking for Life" teaches basic cooking skills to lower income families. The video made of these classes will encourage participation in future classes and help promote the program throughout Vermont.

Dorset Visiting Nurse Association
VISIONS Camp will help young women expand their vision by strengthening their sense of self-worth, increasing their potential to make healthy choices during the difficult transition of adolescence.

Green Mountain RSVP
We have learned that 18% of eighth grade students in Vermont are reading significantly below their grade level. This project will help young VT students improve their reading level before leaving elementary school.

Jamaica Village School
21st century technology skills are a critical component in the education of today's students. An ELMO projector will make learning and presenting that much more engaging for the children.

Manchester Elementary School
We have identified a population of our school community, who despite our ever-increasing attempts, are not successful literacy learners even as early as kindergarten. This program will access families before their children enter school, and develop and implement strategies to open that vital communication and to provide the tools and the training within the family unit

Mountain School at Winhall
This program at MSW is entitled The OPUS Project. This Spring's theme is "Our World, Our History." The project is a trimester-long study of world history and culture. Various visiting artists and educators will work with students on multiple projects.

Project Linus
Project Linus volunteers provide the gift of new, handmade quilts, afghans, and blankets to children in Vermont who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need of warmth and comfort.

Smokey House
Smokey House Center has historically provided full scholarships for economically disadvantaged young people to attend a Summer Field Studies Program. High quality, low-cost summer programs for the children of middle class Vermonters are rare, yet it is this population which is most likely to experience the "summer learning gap" when students lose ground academically.

Southern Vermont AHEC
MedQuest is a summer enrichment program for southern Vermont high school students who live in Bennington, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor counties. Through an application process, fifty five students are selected to participate in one of the three programs, spend a week on a college campus, job shadow health care professionals of their choice, participate in health related workshops, and have fun.

VINS
A crucial step to addressing the environmental disconnect in children is to provide them with out-of-school experiences, such as VINS Nature Camp, that inspire joy, wonder, and curiosity for the natural world.

Weston Playhouse
The Early Stages Program is an in-school program that engages elementary school students in the excitement of creating live theatre. Our rural population has few opportunities to both attend children's theatre events or to participate in them.

Fall 2009

Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center
The grant will greatly help to offset the cost of providing ski lessons with a scholarship so they can continue to offer lessons regardless of an individual's ability to pay.

Bennington County Meals Program
This fall we made a McCarty Grant to BCMP for the purpose of providing refrigeration. With the purchase of this equipment, the BCMP is now able to be completely confident that all meals are safe and will be appropriately hot or cold when delivered.

Carlos Otis Clinic
The Carlos Otis Clinic will provide the communities they serve with a newer, more reliable, state of the art rescue vehicle.

Grace Cottage Hospital
The Stratton Foundation made a grant to purchase a wall-mounted diagnostic system to equip one of these rooms.

Happy Days Playschool
The Stratton Foundation made a grant to support the planned Art and Sculpture in the Natural Environment project. This project will provide residencies with artists Kim Ray and James Florschutz. These residencies will help stimulate children's thinking, creativity and character, while preparing them for success in kindergarten and increasing their exposure to the arts.

Manchester Health Services
We made a grant for the purpose of purchasing a Defender Sentinel 10 security system to monitor the perimeter of their office building, which also houses their Thrift Shop. In recent months, they have had problems with unauthorized dumping, as well as vandalism of donations to the Thrift Shop left at the back of the building.

Mountain Valley Medical Clinic
We made a grant for the purpose of upgrading the "Crash cart" located in their treatment area. The crash cart is similar to the ones seen in hospital emergency rooms and contains all the necessary emergency medicine and equipment needed when treating patients with life threatening emergencies.

South Londonderry Free Library
The Stratton Foundation made a McCarty Grant to purchase a computer/monitor ( and post launch programming, which may include: CD books, new books or special electronic programs. The project includes funding for a three month series of special programs and to help motivate the target age group to use the new area.

United Counseling Service
At UCS the protocol is to work with each person in an individualized way. As an adjunct to individual, family, or group treatment the Stratton Foundation made a grant to purchase workbooks and journals.

Vermont Reading Partners
The Stratton Foundation was pleased to give a grant for the purpose of purchasing a "tool box" of supplies so that their tutors can offer the best "hands on" techniques to their children who need the extra help.
